Japanese Food 100 – #51 Kitsune Udon

Kitsune Udon is one of the most basic menus at Udon restaurants.
Kitsune means fox in Japanese.
Kitsune Udon is Udon noodle with warm soup topped with Aburaage (sweetened deep-fried tofu).
Japanese has been eating Kitsune Udon for long time and there are many reason why it’s called “Fox Udon”.
It’s said that one famous reason is because Aburaage is fox’s favorite food.
By the way, it’s believed that fox is an envoy of the god Inari.
So, in kanagawa, Udon noodle with warm soup topped with Aburaage is called “Inari Udon”.
